Influence: Our Greatest Responsibility

I've come to the conclusion that many of the things Americans focus on doesn't really matter. If we have the right clothing, swagger, the right job or car--those things don't really matter as much as how we have influenced other people. In this day and age of social media and connectivity we all have access to have greater influence on others than just a generation ago. With that ability to influence also comes responsibility. What we say, what we do, and what we post online has the ability to affect others. It calls for reflection of the possible consequences before he hit the send or post button. The impression we make on others shouldn't be focused on how great we are, or think we are, but how great they (the person potentially influenced by you) are and can be.

Use your influence for the betterment of others. If we are lucky we will have time to reflect back on our lives at some point and determine if we have had satisfactory lives. I don't think the real measure of a person's character is about how much money they made, how many people are connected to them on social media, how rich, famous, or sought after you are. It is the difference you make in the circles you travel in. Are you helping others achieve their best? How will the world be impacted by your presence? So how will you define satisfaction at the end of your life? Some quotes about influence:

"Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another." Napoleon Hill“

We never know which lives we influence, or when, or why.” Stephen King

“Whoever controls the media, the images, controls the culture.” Allen Ginsberg
