What is Hypnosis?

“Whatever you plant in your subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion, eventually becomes a reality”

Hypnosis is a natural state of the consciousness

-- unconsciouses spectrum of brain function.                                                                     During hypnosis, the brain is in the perfect                                                                         state to form new connections, making it                                                                         easier to learn new behaviors or change old

ones. The brainwave activity shifts to slower

waves, like theta and gamma, which link to

relaxation and focused attention.

Occurrences can happen spontaneously or deliberately induced either with the assistance of a professional or by one’s own volition and skill. It can include a change in brainwave states, breathing pattern, awareness of present moment, pain relief in the form of hypnotic analgesia, and amnesia for a specific hypnotherapy experience. Hypnosis is used by trained professionals as a treatment method to aid the patient approximating or achieving a stated goal between patient and therapist. Outcomes are determined by patient’s self-attestations or by behavioral outcomes.

The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) defines hypnosis as: A state of conscious-ness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness characterized by an enhanced capacity for response to suggestion.

Milton Erickson defined hypnosis simply as “communication,” and as “concentrating exclusively on your own thoughts, values, memories and beliefs about life.” He said that the “trance state is active unconscious learning”

American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) member as well as North Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis (NTSCH). Milton H. Erickson, MD established ASCH in 1957. Since that time many doctors, professors, researchers, psychologists, nurses, and mental health practitioners have contributed to the wealth of evidence-based clinical data that examines and addresses all aspects of the practice of hypnotherapy. This is the standard of high statistical significance that we hold ourselves to.

I am trained by ASCH in over 60 hours by these esteemed practitioner-instructors. I have been licensed by the state of Texas as a LPC since 2006 and LPC--Supervisor since 2006. I am currently adding another 20 hours training with the consultation of Roxanna Erickson-Klein toward being Certified by ASCH in hypnosis.
